About Interpay

Interpay builds the retail payment software that banks and merchants across Saudi Arabia depend on: POS and SoftPOS acceptance, e-commerce gateways, payment switching and merchant services. Our products handle cardholder data under SAMA regulation and PCI security standards, and they run around the clock.

The role

Interpay's backend platform authorises, routes and settles card transactions at scale. As a Backend Engineer (.NET), you'll build and operate the services behind it: maintaining established ASP.NET applications on Windows and SQL Server, and building cloud-native services on modern .NET in Linux containers on Kubernetes. You'll report to the Development Manager.

What you'll do

Design and development

  • Requirements and design: work with product, architecture and internal stakeholders on sound software design
  • Modern .NET: build, containerise and deploy services on current .NET on Linux and Kubernetes, with twelve-factor principles, health checks, structured logging and observability from the start
  • Legacy ASP.NET: maintain and progressively modernise ASP.NET and ASP.NET MVC applications with the strangler and expand-contract patterns, without service disruption
  • APIs: design well-documented REST and gRPC APIs, and agree contracts with mobile and front-end developers
  • Data: design schemas, write efficient queries and tune performance on SQL Server and, as the platform migrates, distributed SQL (YugabyteDB / PostgreSQL)
  • Refactoring: pay down technical debt and keep improving resilience and maintainability

Payments domain

  • Implement and support authorisation, reversal, settlement and reconciliation flows
  • Work with ISO 8583 message handling and host interfaces to acquirers, schemes and processors
  • Support EMV transaction flows and tokenisation of cardholder data
  • Integrate with Hardware Security Modules, including DUKPT and TR-31 key blocks
  • Engineer for high throughput and low latency with idempotency, exactly-once semantics and safe retries
  • Build event-driven and asynchronous workflows on Kafka or RabbitMQ

Security, quality and operations

  • Apply PCI DSS and PCI Secure SLC practices throughout development
  • Implement OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, mutual TLS, JWT handling and proper secrets management
  • Write unit, integration and contract tests, and support CI/CD, release, change control and rollback
  • Keep design notes, API specifications and runbooks current
  • Act as subject-matter expert for your applications: incident response, root cause analysis, and audit and pen-test remediation

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 4+ years of backend development, with production systems delivered
  • Strong C# across .NET Framework / ASP.NET and current .NET
  • ASP.NET MVC, dependency injection and repository patterns
  • Building and running services in Linux containers with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Solid SQL Server: schema design, stored procedures, indexing and query tuning
  • Designing and consuming REST APIs, and familiarity with gRPC or RPC
  • Agile delivery, and Git with pull-request and code-review workflows
  • Secure coding and the OWASP Top 10
  • Enough HTML5 and CSS3 to support server-rendered views
  • Professional working proficiency in English
  • Willing and eligible to work on-site in Riyadh

Nice to have

  • Payments, fintech or banking experience, especially switching, acquiring, POS or e-commerce processing
  • ISO 8583 message construction, parsing and host interface development
  • EMV, tokenisation, HSM integration, DUKPT or TR-31 key blocks
  • Work in a PCI DSS or PCI Secure SLC certified environment
  • YugabyteDB, or PostgreSQL at scale
  • Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar messaging platforms
  • OpenTelemetry, Prometheus and Grafana
  • Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, and infrastructure as code
  • Zero-downtime schema migrations with the expand-contract pattern

How we work

  • Engineering discipline: clean, tested, maintainable code and a high bar in code review
  • Security mindset: security and compliance are design inputs from the start
  • Ownership: you see services into production and support them once they're live
  • Analytical rigour: careful reasoning about correctness, concurrency and failure modes
  • Collaboration: clear communication across countries and time zones
  • Adaptability: comfortable moving between legacy maintenance and greenfield work

Where and when

Full-time, on-site at our Riyadh office. You may join an on-call rotation and occasionally work outside standard hours to support production releases and incidents.
